Our smoothie of the week to see us through the penultimate week of October is the Hydration Smoothie made up of Strawberries, Cucumber, Lemon, Honey and Milk, pink in colour, packed with punch!
So, why have we selected those particular ingredients to put into our super scrumptious smoothie? We generally associate smoothies with Summertime and staying healthy and hydrated during the warm months of the year however during Autumn it’s so important that we really stay hydrated just as much as we would in Summer, if not more!As the nights draw closer and darker, the air turns colder, our skin and body begin to feel the effects of the harsh elements more than we realise. It’s so simple, and so are our ingredients! We use milk as the base of our Hydration Smoothie; it’s an excellent source of calcium, protein and potassium which helps us to maintain healthy blood pressure. Next we add cucumber as it’s high in nutrients, important vitamins and minerals but low in calories. As well as containing antioxidants the cucumber promotes hydration and aids in weight loss and lowering blood sugars, so it’s great for keeping us internally balanced.
Lemons also promote hydration, they are a brilliant source of Vitamin C, help improve the quality of your skin, support weight loss and digestion, and are overall a regarded as a super-food, ‘The Queen of all Citrus Fruits’, to be precise!
Strawberries are jam–packed, with vitamins and fibre and have very high levels of antioxidants. Did you know strawberries are fat and sodium free and as well as being a strong source of potassium? Strawberries are classified in the top 20 fruits with high antioxidant capacity!
