Meet Mr & Mrs Cuthbertson-Moon, the latest stars of our Real Life Bride series…
Our story and our wedding:
How did you meet?
It sounds really boring, but we met at work. Our eyes met across a crowded laboratory… the heavy, crisp-white, knee-length lab coat really showed off Melissa’s figure, and the green latex gloves and safety goggles looked good on her, but it wasn’t the best environment for a chat up line! After a few months, I eventually plucked up the (Dutch) courage to talk to her properly on a Christmas party – we grabbed a drink, got chatting, and found out we had loads in common.
Tell us about the proposal…
We were away on holiday, at an amazing beachfront villa in Lanzarote, where we had stayed during our first ever holiday together. He sent me outside to the balcony and cooked my favourite breakfast – Eggs Benedict. By the time he was done it had started to rain, but he made such an amazing effort with the (lack of facilities) and available ingredients. Then for dessert, he came out with a personalised Starbucks cup (my other favourite!) with “Will you marry me?” on it. He got down on one knee, and I burst into tears!
Why did you choose Seaham Hall?
Seaham Hall has always been special to us. It was the first place we stayed as a couple way back in 2010, and somewhere we have returned to many times over the years for afternoon tea, spa days, and overnight stays with dinner. Seaham is everything we wanted in a venue; beautiful surroundings inside and out, great facilities, amazing food, and attentive staff. Also, much of the hotel decor and food options fitted our theme perfectly.
What was the theme?
Modern with Eastern accents for the ceremony, and East-meets-West for the wedding breakfast and evening. The colour scheme was cherry blossom/blush, ivories, and greys.
Tell us about the dress?
The dress was “PETA” from the signature collection at WED2B. As soon as I put it on, I knew it was the one! It had a gorgeous keyhole back with sheer panels and an illusion sweetheart neckline. He approved!
What is your favourite part of Seaham Hall?
Where did you choose to hold your ceremony? What did you like about your ceremony space?
At Seaham Hall in the Courtyard. We chose it because it is so well lit with natural lighting and very elegant.
How did you feel?
I felt super excited to see Andrew as I was hidden away all morning getting my hair and makeup done, and I was really looking forward to seeing how the rooms were decorated.
What music did you walk down the aisle to; does it have a special meaning?
We had a local harpist (Helena Pearson) playing Kiss from a Rose by Seal as I walked down the aisle. It was beautiful, I normally get a tear in my eye when I hear it, but I was determined I wasn’t going to ruin my makeup for the photos on the big day!
