A winter wedding is full of possibilities, and a celebration at this time of year is sure to be a truly magical way to start your next chapter together. Over the years, we’ve hosted more than our fair share of winter weddings, including Lord Byron himself, who was married at Seaham Hall on 2nd January 1815. So, to help you start planning, we’ve put together some inspiration from some of our favourite shots and some tips from our experienced wedding planners.

Choosing the perfect dress
This beautiful bride picked out the perfect dress for a stroll through the grounds – light and delicate, but with a longer sleeve that works well at this time of year. Paired with a gorgeous veil and tiara, this simple but elegant look really shone on the day. Or, you could always pair a sleeveless dress with a shawl when the time comes to head outside.

Creating the perfect atmosphere
Winter is an opportunity to take advantage of bolder colours and warmer lighting to create an impressive but cosy atmosphere. At a winter wedding, the majority of your reception is likely to be held after the sun sets, so it’s important to see your venue in the dark before you start planning. Arrange a visit in the evening to check the lighting, and even think about bringing your photographer so they can plan their shots.

Finding the perfect flowers
Plan your flowers to match the season. Tropical blooms and anything out of season will have to be imported specially and, after a long flight, they’re unlikely to look their best. Instead, opt for seasonal flowers that embrace what’s available. Tie in some wintry ivy or some berries for a pop of colour, or take inspiration from jewel tones and choose something a little more opulent.

Planning those all-important snaps
Be sure to search far and wide for a photographer whose style matches your own. Create a mood board of shots that you love and discuss everything with them so they know exactly what it is you’re looking for. Another important thing to remember is that your photographer is as much a part of your day as your guests. You’ll spend more time around them than anyone else, so make sure that you’re comfortable with them.
